The street map of  Varaždin still overlaps the old Roman~renaissance~17th century baroque network of lanes and squares.  The core of the town, about 60ha is pedestrianised, leaving you free to concentrate on its beauty and interest.   Although the overall impression is of baroque architecture, most buildings and churches have another five hundred years of history within them.

You will pass the palaces of the aristocracy, renaissance churches and monasteries.  Explore deep inside the myriads of courtyards and you will glimpse the carefully tended gardens not visible from the the streets.
